The Friends of BVCAs many of you will know, The Friends of Bottisham Village College (PTA) over the years, have provided the college with their support in a number of ways.
Consisting of parental volunteers, the group have organised school fundraising events for the community such as a popular Summer Ball, quizzes, second hand uniform sales and student social events. As a result, our student body have benefitted substantially from a range of donations, some examples:
• Minibus lease
• Laptops for Learning Support
• 3D Printer
• Music Technology
• Dyslexia screening software
As you can see, these contributions to college life have been invaluable and have added greatly to students’ experiences while studying at the college.
However, as tends to happen, as their children leave the college, committee members end their time with us, leaving us with vacancies which need to be filled in order for The Friends to function effectively. As it stands, given there has been little take-up to join the committee, we are in the precarious position of The Friends of Bottisham Village College folding, leaving a growing school with no official fundraising association. Given The Friends subsidise the Year 11 Leavers’ Ball, we would not be in a position to pay for this very special event from our school funding, from June 2021.
To that end, could I please appeal to you all to seriously consider joining The Friends of Bottisham Village College. If you have ideas for events, would enjoy working in a vibrant friendly team, have particular skills or networks that may support events- we need you!! There are many roles you could take on- being part of the committee, forming part of a specific events team, or if little time, volunteer to support events on the day. If you have access to match funding due to the nature of your work please let us know as the money raised can be doubled!
If you would think you could make a difference to the life chances of young people and would like to know more, we shall be holding our AGM on Wednesday 29th January at the college at 6.45pm for a 7pm start (8pm finish). Contact Jane Taylor (Principal’s PA) on email@example.com to let her know you would like to attend and she will send you out some further details.
We very much look forward to meeting with you there and certainly hope that enough parents come forward to ensure this fantastic organisation continues to work for the interests of our students, here at Bottisham Village College.
