Eco / Non-Uniform dayThursday 13th February
We are pleased to inform you that on Thursday 13th February 2020, we are having our first Eco Day. Last year, our college launched ‘Bottisham Against Climate Change’ with a school event at the World Tree and a week of assemblies to spread awareness of the cause.
Already, the college has made great improvements regarding its environmental impact: plastic bottles are no longer sold at the canteen, napkins and disposable cutlery are now made of recycled materials and Bottisham Eco Club has even met with the Cambridge County Council to discuss their environmental action plan.
Our Eco day aims to celebrate the progress already made, raise further awareness of the cause and raise money in order to take direct action against the climate crisis. The day will be filled with ways for your child to get involved, including:
• Non-school uniform- £1 per child, we encourage students not to buy anything new to prevent the supporting of fast fashion
• Cake sale at break in the Project Area- we encourage students to bring money to purchase cakes or bake something themselves to be sold!
• There will be a see planting demo at break time in Hall 2 if students would like to learn how they can start growing their own plants at home
• ‘I’m a Teacher, get me out of here!’ will be held in the Evans Auditorium at lunch and is £1 entry to watch
Alongside the Eco day, members of the Student Leadership Team and Eco Club, will be leading assemblies throughout the week, discussing the current climate crisis.
The climate crisis is a pressing issue in modern life, already causing devastating events, such as the Australian bushfires. All money raised will be donated to projects or charities fighting against climate change or supporting the bushfires.
