Consultation proposal on establishing a Multi Academy TrustLetter from Mr P Hodgson, Chair of Governors
I am writing to you to inform you of the outcome of a meeting of the Full Governing Body that took place on Monday 16 March 2015. After a full discussion and careful consideration of the potential benefits and drawbacks of forming a Multi Academy Trust, the governors passed the following resolution:
‘We resolve to convert from our current Academy status to establish a Multi Academy Trust and instruct the Principal to facilitate this change, ensuring appropriate consultation.’
We are proposing that we should establish a Multi Academy Trust, as we are confident that the skills and expertise we have developed in driving school improvement at Bottisham Village College, can be of benefit to other schools. We have demonstrated this most recently through our leadership of The Netherhall School this academic year, having been commissioned by the LA to temporarily lead the school. We believe that there is a moral imperative to secure an outstanding education for all young people, not just those who live within our existing catchment area. We are also absolutely confident that more formal partnerships will bring great benefit to Bottisham Village College, as we learn from the expertise and ideas of colleagues in other schools; there have been numerous examples of this throughout all of our support work with other schools in recent years. The Governing Body of The Netherhall School has identified Bottisham Village College as their preferred sponsor, and both schools are currently exploring this possibility.
A discussion paper which you may find useful in considering the implications of this change is available to view here
This document gives background information about Multi Academy Trusts, as well as setting out potential benefits and draw-backs. Further information on Multi Academy Trusts is also available at the Department for Education website at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/governance-in-multi-academy-trusts
The governing body remains absolutely committed to our role as a village college, offering comprehensive education to all young people in our community. We believe that establishing a Multi Academy Trust will allow us the best opportunity to maintain and further develop the outstanding provision which we currently offer, for all of the young people in our care.
We are conscious that this is a very significant decision for Bottisham Village College and I therefore invite you to take part in a consultation period which will conclude on Wednesday 1st July 2015. You can engage in this process by:
- Referring to the discussion paper on our website at www.bottishamvc.org (Hard copies are available on request from the Main Reception at the college)
- Completing a feedback form, available here and returning to the college via a dedicated consultation email address: firstname.lastname@example.org or in writing to the Clerk to the Governors, c/o Bottisham Village College.
- Attending a Parents Information Evening in the Main Hall at 6pm on Thursday 11th June where you will have an opportunity to ask questions.
Following the completion of the consultation period on Wednesday 1st July, the governing body will be meeting again to consider the outcomes of the consultation before reaching a final conclusion.
I will write to you again in due course, to update you on any further developments.
