Consultation on Bottisham Village College
becoming a Foundation School and
establishing the Bottisham Education Trust
Bottisham Village College is considering becoming a Trust School and changing status from a Community School to a Foundation School. This letter is to outline our ideas and proposals and as part of our consultation process to ask for your views.
Our Proposed Trust
Trust Schools are a new kind of maintained state school – part of the Local Authority system, but supported by a Charitable Trust. The Governing Body would continue to run the school and be responsible for its performance and Mrs Evans would continue as Principal. We would still maintain our strengths as a local comprehensive village college, serving our local community.
The Governing Body of Bottisham Village College are proposing to establish a Trust with a range of local partner organisations and agencies, enabling us to build strong and sustainable partnerships which we believe would lead to improved levels of achievement and life chances for all of our students. The proposed partner organisations are:
-
Cambridge Building Society
-
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust
-
Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge
-
John Lewis Partnership
-
The Marshall Group of Companies
-
The National Stud
-
Red2Green
What does this mean for Students?
Bottisham Village College is committed to helping every student achieve their full potential, both socially and academically and therefore the Every Child Matters outcomes remain our highest priority. These challenging outcomes are to ensure that all students:
The Trust will help us to achieve these aims by developing opportunities for representatives from partner organisations to be involved in the day to day life of the college. Examples of this involvement might be:
-
Contributing to our Personal Social Health Education days
-
Speaking to students about a particular area of the curriculum
-
Providing an insight into the world of work
What does this mean for Parents?
The College will remain part of the Local Authority family of maintained schools; we will still teach the National Curriculum and we will continue to be bound by the Schools Admissions Code.
It is not envisaged that the number of Parent Governors will change. The Trust will appoint two Governors to the Governing Body.
How can I find out more information?
The College has produced a Consultation Paper, “The Bottisham Education Trust Consultation Document” and a “Frequently Asked Questions” document, both available on this website. Paper copies are available on request from Student Reception at the college.

Attending the Trust Consultation meeting on Tuesday, 26th January at 7.00pm in the Main Hall of the school
The deadline for the submission of all comments and responses to the proposals is Friday, 26th February 2010.
Following this consultation period Governors will then review all comments and will decide whether or not to go ahead and publish a statutory proposal, and if so, whether to amend the proposals to reflect any suggestions or concerns that emerge through the consultation process.
If the Governing Body goes on to publish statutory proposals then there will be a further opportunity for comments and representations before it takes a final decision on whether to implement those proposals.
Mr Philip Hodgson
Chair of Governors
