You are about to enter an exciting phase of your educational career. For the first time you get to choose some of the subjects that you learn next year. It is important that you make the right choices, because the qualifications that you get when you leave Bottisham, will affect what you do in your adult life.
This website (and accompanying booklet) is designed to help you pick the right options. It tells you the sort of things that you need to be thinking about, the questions that you need to ask, and where you can get the answers that you need. Most importantly, it gives you basic information about all of the courses that we offer at Bottisham. It acts, therefore, as a basic source of reference. Because of this, you must make sure that you do not lose it. We would also like you to show it to your parents, and discuss its contents with them.
Don’t forget that you are not just picking which subjects to take next year: you are also picking which types of courses you would like to take. In the past, like all schools, the college has mostly offered GCSEs, but now there are new qualifications, such as BTECS and OCR Nationals, and this year for the first time, Diplomas. Make sure that you know about these qualifications— they might be right for you.
The golden rules are to listen hard and to ask if you are not sure. If you follow these rules, we are very confident that you will make the choices that are right for you.
